Washington Military Academy - Washington Youth ChalleNGe Academy is a division of the Washington Department of the Military and is aligned with the mission and responsibilities of the department. The program is essential to the Department's mission to protect lives and communities, as WYCA improves community resilience through alternative educational experiences for youth.
Baron von Steuben compiled a paper on close drill during the winter at Valley Forge and sent it to Washington in 1779. Washington generally approved the work, but made some suggestions based on his own experience.

Point played a crucial role in keeping the new United States out of British hands during the American Revolution, even before the region became famous for academia i his military. West Point is located on the plains on the west side of the Hudson River, about sixty miles north of New York City.
In 1781, George Washington called the fort site "the most important post office in America" and worked to keep West Point under Patriot control during the Revolutionary War. Driving out of a motor vehicle is not allowed.

All vehicles must park in the main Pendergast Park parking lot. DO NOT bring a camper, five wheeler or RV. It takes up too much space and must stay in the parking lot. Do not park on the side of the road in front of the football center - this is a fire lane.
You can not park or run on the grass in Pendergast Park. The parking lane closest to the football center will be closed to football center customers. This area is clearly marked with signs. Bring only cooking utensils that you can easily transport to your picnic spot.

After the death of Lawrence, due to Lawrence Washington's connections and his own assessment of success, Governor Robert Dinwiddie appointed George Washington as an aide of the rank of major of militia, a position he would hardly hold otherwise. 4 The most prominent American military figure in the revolutionary era had ad hoc military education.
General Henry Knox owned a bookstore and kept a large inventory of military literature. Using these works, he studied artillery and engineering, which helped to increase his practical experience with a local artillery unit. 1 General Nathaniel Greene, who was born a Quaker, received very little formal education, but was fond of reading military works. 2
In contrast, General Horatio Gates, the hero of Saratoga retired after a successful career in the British Army. When Gates sided with the colonies, General Washington appointed him adjutant general because of his experience and lack of professional soldiers.

Cadets who leave their authorized areas will have their Family Day qualifications revoked and will be subject to disciplinary action. The parking lot and soccer center cannot be used by cadets. After the war, Congress saw the standing army as dangerous and disbanded the American forces, except for less than a hundred men at Fort Pitt and West Point.
Washington even supported the creation of a permanent military academy by disbanding the army. The Revolutionary War made the lack of formal military training in America abundantly clear. In 1790, Secretary of War Henry Knox and Chancellor of the Exchequer Alexander Hamilton made the first official recommendation to establish a military academy.
West Point was chosen as the site of the academy because its location and fortifications would make it difficult for the enemy to besiege it. Congress rejected the proposal, although it had recently taken full possession of West Point by indemnifying Stephen Moore, a private landowner in the fort.

George Washington attributed his first career command as a surveyor for his later ability to understand the terrain during military operations and move his troops accordingly.5 The British Army famously refused Washington a commission, even though France and served in the Indian service.

The episode prompted Washington to warn McDougall that West Point was "first in size and importance," "and possibly in the design of the enemy."
The second close call was due to the betrayal of Benedict Arnold in 1780. Arnold attracted Washington's attention after the Battle of Quebec in late 1775 and the Battle of Saratoga in October 1777. Arnold's tenacity and strong leadership showed the qualities that Washington valued during the war.
